Ryan Adams Presents: Infinity Blues
Ryan Adams has just published his first book of poetry. It’s called Infinity Blues.
That’s all I wanted to say right now. I mean, this is not a review. This is an announcement. The review will come later.
I just picked up a copy of it a couple days ago. I feel like I need to reread it another ten times though before I can forge some sort of defensible opinion. Right now I’ve only read it one time, really fast, all the way through. I had the same reaction to Infinity Blues that I have when listening to one of his albums for the first time (except for Love Is Hell which instantly drilled itself into the back of my brain stem, causing me to recognize it instantly as a fucking modern day classic).
I love Ryan Adams. I think he’s a fucking genius. He’s obsessed with all the right stuff (love, addictions, 80’s Metal Bands, comic books, death). I never really love his music the first time I hear it though. I like it. Or it might come off as ok. Or sometimes I’m pretty sure it sucks.
But after three or four listens everything clicks. It’s makes sense to me. It’s perfect. The songs I thought sucked become my favorites. I get hooked. I’ll listen to the damn thing on repeat obsessively for months.
Infinity Blues hit me sort of like that. I’ve read it once. I like it quite a bit. I have a feeling I’m going to like it a hell of a lot more after spending some time and reading it two or three more times all the way through.
But for now, I’ve already said way-too-many-paragraphs-more-than-I’d-intended-to-say too much.
Review to follow soon or not so soon.
until then, pick up a copy yourself and let me know what you think
and also: I love you
Rob
