A weekend of Casual Satisfaction.
Wednesday night’s accidental jaunt to Rhinoceropolis led me to a rad laser and smoke machine-laced dance party with Denver’s best-kept secret, Millennium Child. His set of crazy space jams was other-worldly, and a nice kick off to an otherwise drab early week of dancing (I’m really only referring to the Fischerspooner show Monday night at the Ogden that went off like two gay dads practicing dance routines in their garage.) But enough about what’s already happened this week…
The later half of the week is super promising, beginning with a trip to Beta tonight, Thursday, May 22nd, for a killer set by Moderat. Modeselektor and Apparat, two giant German electro-acts melted into one big awesome threesome a few years ago and started creating bump-worthy club shit for the bass hungry ear hole. Oooh, and be ready for some hella trippy visuals as Moderat splatters eye candy in sync with their aquatic melodies.
((NOTE: Whoops! It seems that this event actually took place Saturday night, but luckily no one reads this blog and didn't catch it. My apologies to Moderat!))
Friday, May 23rd, its Beta again for Chicago Honeys Flosstradamus (honeys to me, anyway. Both dudes are super cute!) Like Girl Talk without the ADD, duo Josh Young (J2K) and Curt Caremuchi (Autobot) mash-up Lil’ John and Alice DJ to fulfill all of your dirty south raver desires. Their sonic cut and pastes let the beat ride out, giving every dancer what they want the most: an epic build-up and total bottomed-out bass drop. Glow sticks are to be a perfectly acceptable accessory for a Flosstradamus set, if you ask me.
Saturday, May 24th, it’s Pictureplane at the Meadowlark with Speakeasy Tiger, Josephine and the Mouse People and Iungliss. I hope it’s nice enough to utilize the patio stage, because I’m ready to hippie-out and groove on an earthy dance floor like the Meadowlark’s epic space under the stars.
(I think I should just become Pictureplane’s publicist already. I love talking about Travis Egedy because I love what he does and I wish he played every day of the week. Speaking of my man, check out his Future Islands remix here!)
Also, don’t forget about the first of Illiterate’s bad-ass-tastic Creative Keggers summer parties of 2009, NYC STREET GAMES, happening May 29th at Cluster Studios. The Illit crew is bringing New York to Denver and the street-centric playground games of the big apple to this new space for another of our infamous throw downs. DJs, art, and a good old game of foursquare will surely push us all headfirst in to Denver’s best summer yet!
