fresh blood
Hello, hello, hello to the illiterate public. Please allow me to introduce myself: twenty-two years aged, Colorado born and raised, attending CU Boulder, studying film theory and production. I have a focus in avant-garde and experimental art cinema. I will proudly and affectionately offer you new and exciting exposure to the world of cinema. For your personal consumption and enjoyment, hopefully I will expose you to valuable, and interesting cinema both past and present. Cinema is special because it is an optical illusion. The meshing of thousands of stills through spinning shudders and projected light create the illusion of movement upon our consciousness (a.k.a. Phi Phenomena). Cinema is magical, so we should allow it to affect us emotionally and conceptually. It operates formally upon our individual and collective consciousness. Avant-garde lives under the shadow of Hollywood classical cinema as do other modes of cinema including installation, loopings, video-channel projections, multiple projections, animation, stereoscopic (3-D) programs, music-videos, found-footage, appropriation, and performance work. Why not remove the blindfold that the formulaic, exhausted cliche of Hollywood has implanted over us all and see what else exists in the medium of cinema outside the typical conventions, typical celebrity, and typical typicality? Various modes of cinema create unique and radical insight in us individually, all based through the treatment of their photography to illustrate ideas. Cinema can be as diverse and eclectic through its aesthetic of moving image created in its emulsion or digital pixels. Let us expose ourselves to the hundreds of options that blend form and content visually into something profound. Image is a language universally understood, so we should let the voice of cinema speak. But it must go on mention that this blog will stress alternative cinema and its particular, poetic voice. Cinema presents problems and solutions, ideas and innovations, the past, present, and future, but most of all it speaks emotion through images.
