TITWRENCH!

When the Underground reaches the surface, where do you go to find the really rawkus kids? You know, the one's who, if they don't always push the envelope, aren't afraid to push to get there?

In the case of the Underground Music Showcase, which has dropped "Denver" from it's title and added national acts to it's lineup in an attempt to grow into, what event organizer and Denver Post Music Critic, Ricardo Baca, calls "a South By Southwest style festival" to find the underground within the underground look to the feminine fringe i.e. TITWRENCH.

Spearheaded by Denver's DJ Sarah Slater, TITWRENCH formed as a committe of radical female Denverites who believed Denver needed it's own lady centric, experimental music festival. Of course this takes time and even more importantly $$$, so about six months ago the women of TITWRENCH began hosting late night dance parties to raise funds for their brainchild.

As is the case with fringe contingents surrounding larger events, TITWRENCH will look to draw it's crowd from the spillover of its more mass appeal friendly relative, the UMS. Unlike other feminine fests, however, TITWRENCH is not a refugee campout for waylaid softrockers of the early 90's Lilith Fair diaspora. Sure, the melodious folk waifs will have their place amidst the three day experience, but only as one of a litany of genres, including ambient, pyschedelic, punk, noise and thrash.

Now, this isn't to say that the UMS isn't worth exploring for those interested in boundary altering artistry. Pinkhawks will be on hand with their recently developed Afrobeat improvisations and don't miss Josephine and the Mousepeople as it's been rumored that their set this evening at Indy Ink may include new songs and potentially a collaboration with one half of the electro wizards BDRMPPL. Also look for other Rhino regulars like MMCIII, Married in Berdichev, Slight Harp, Chris Adolf of Bad Weather California and Hunter Dragon.
