A native of Colorado, S.D. Prochyra left for the Northwest to pursue his degree at Gonzaga University where he began to focus his creative abilities on printmaking. Upon graduating, Prochyra was invited to embark on a cross-country journery as a member of the world renowned traveling woodblock printers, Drive By Press. Giving demonstrations and workshops at Universities and institutions across the country, Prochyra encountered and worked with many of the nation's top printmakers. After extensive touring, Prochyra's return to Colorado, has been marked by both a continuation of his expert printmaking endeavors, as well as a resurgence in his initial art interest, with a steadily increasing output of drawings.

Though born and raised in rural Colorado, Prochyra’s frequent travel has aroused in him a curiosity for bizarre human solutions devised from the puzzles of our species’ status on the planet. Prochyra’s work articulates the conflict between love of the serene and love of the vulgar; between adoration of systems devoid of our involvement and beyond our comprehension, and fascination with the destructive and illusory structures we construct in an attempt to control them. The natural world and the world of claimed human dominion are presented as separate churches with a common revolving door. His work is a contemplation of the overlooked yet profound elegance present in this tension.

Requiem, a body of work created while working as a resident at Illiterate, is an exploration of the beauty inherent in death and decay within the natural world. Using printmaking techniques, drawing, and found objects, Prochyra draws attention to what might otherwise be overlooked in this passing.
