Brittany Gould Letting Yourself Go

Hello my Name is...

Brittany Leigh Gould

I hale from ....

Potomac Maryland, few minutes outside of Washington DC

And currently reside here in...

Denver, Colorado

I am well trained in the art(s) of ...

Printmaking, imagination, installation.
And have the power to... make people see new things. Really, whatever that means.

My quest is...

Help myself and others see new realities. Really, artistically I just want to make each new piece better and more on point. And with different mediums and with different times in my life that takes different things.

I will not rest until...

I die, probably.

It all started when....

I moved to Colorado.
Originally, to pursue a degree in Molecular Biology at CU Boulder. And met some really talented, creative, motivated people, and they became my closest friends. They have been most inspiring.

My favorite work of fiction ...

Frankenstein,  by Mary Shelley. A Hawkline Monster by Richard Braugtigan, Franny and Zooey by JD Salinger

My favorite piece of non fiction...

Minimalism: Origins. Probably the last Non-fiction I read and it was really exciting. it explored Minimalism as genre in the mediums of Sound, the 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional. There are so many differences in the term between mediums, and it was interesting to see everything in one book. Because where a lot of times there wasn't a whole of of correlation, the sixties in art and music was really incredible, everyone knew each other and wanted to be involved in each other's projects.

My biggest fantasy is...

living in a community with everyone I love trust and look to; Best friends that have moved away, amazing people I have met in my life. It would be incredible to live in the same city and be together. Just being positive, creative forces for ourselves and each other. That is one of my biggest dreams, you know, of just happiness I guess. I wonder if it'd be all wonderful as I think.

And the reality is...

We all live in separate realities. We don't know what's best for everyone else, we barely can figure out what is best for ourselves. And it's interesting, because I dream a lot about one reality, and I feel that there is a part of life where there is true connection; underneath our skin, you know, under the lakes, where the water trickles down and you find some secret to life, joining death. But on the surface, we're just all trying to live our lives as best we can.

The most impossible monster I can imagine is...

Idon't imagine monsters a lot but creatures. Almost how the Skeksis from Dark Crystal, They were pretty monstrous but in reality they were a part of a larger being. It was when they were combined with the mystics, their opposite, they made an even higher being that combined both good and evil. Because even the mystics for being "all good"(or maybe even not all good) or some sort, seemed pretty boring.

good and bad

The grandest marvel I can imagine is...

You know, I try to imagine people as they are in their non-physical state. As if, when you are with a lot of your friends, and its one of those magical moments where there is such an amazing vibe and you know no one would rather be doing anything else. Its almost as everyone's spirits are almost joining on a whole other plane. I guess on top of the non-tangible marvels such as connection of people, natural destruction is a marvel. My band mate Eva and myself always imagine getting caught up in tornados, or imagine getting a house destroyed. I have never seen anything like that, a lot of people have, and I know it is really probably a pretty terrible thing to see as really beautiful, but I think it is.

The most fantastic thing I've done or seen in real life was...

Touring in Europe was pretty amazing. Being able to do it with one of my best friends, and getting paid to do it, I feel so lucky, and it was so amazing to meet so many great people, and see beautiful places I had never been. I hope its not the last time.
