Hello my name is
David 'Meggs' Hooke.
I was born in
Melbourne, Australia.
And currently live here in
Melbourne.
I am trained in the art(s) of
Design. Self taught Aerosol & acrylic
artist.
The objects I make could be described as
Abstract, expressionist pop-art.
My process involves
Using an illustrative image as a template and layering aerosol, acrylic, mixed media etc. over the image to create a
unique balance between form and abstraction. I also use stencils, wood stains & vinyl cut lettering to achieve the desired result.
My favorite tool of the trade is
A spraycan.
I am most influenced by
The graffiti/street art movement, Figurative painting, Collage, Pop-art, Religious art, Renaissance & chiaroscuro
works.
An average day for me looks like
A morning of checking emails and working on the computer, followed by an afternoon/evening of painting on canvas or walls. Interspersed with riding my bike, drinking, going tothe gym, getting tattoos and partying into the night.
When I'm not making things you might find me
Having a beer with friends, going to the gym, watching a movie, riding my bike, eating out, painting a random wall somewhere. And last but certainly not least, travelling!!!
Something most people don't know about me is?
When i was a small kid my Dad nicknamed me Boo, after Boo Radley in To Kill A Mocking bird.
The best advice I've received so far
The process is just as important as the result.
The luckiest thing that's ever happened to me?
Having a family that is loving and supportive of everything that I do.
