Do you sketch outlines for the different colors and shapes and then cut? Is there a trial and error process for getting the size, shape and placement right?
I don't really do much sketching. I just go for it.
Your online bio notes that you have no formal training, however your tape artwork displays skill that must have taken extensive informal training. How did you get into this unique genre?
I was stoned at the hardware store when I discovered tape.
You live in Portland, a city notorious for its years with more days of rain than sun, what affect does the climate have on your process?
Some days are easier than others.

I saw a couple duct tape related links on your website, and it made me realize you must have a consistent dealer that hooks up the tape in bulk. Personally, I'm fascinated with seemingly unrelated people and elements in the artistic process that are in fact totally essential. What is your relationship with your tape supplier, are you "sponsored"?
I don't have a supplier or a sponsor. I actually buy my tape a roll at a time from various sources around town. My studio is just too small to house several boxes of tape.
Most people are quick to label your work pop art reminiscent of 60's and 70's rock posters. Are you, have you been, or were your parents into psychedelic drugs?
I like drugs but refuse to speak for my folks.
Favorite album art of all time?
Probably Abraxas. Or Axis Bold as Love. Have always been a big fan of Funkadelic covers.

When your job is to use an X-acto knife I bet you're damn sure it's the most effective and comfortable knife out there. What kind of knife do you use to cut so precisely and what features does it have?
I use the standard xacto that you can find anywhere. #11 blade.
Does creating such detailed work require a meditative mindset or do you let emotions dictate your carving technique?
Meditative.

Which living artists are doing it for you right now?
Joshua Petker. Samantha Wall.
Going with the current theme in il.lit.er.ate, is there anything in particular that you love to hate and hate to love?
